Description

While watching cartoons, Jabu’s mom collapses and doesn’t wake up. She’s at odds, as she screams for help. The adults are called in to deal with what has happened, and she’s told to go and play outside.

No one ever explains what is happening with her mother, though she asks many questions. In the chaos, she tries to navigate through all the rituals and arrangements made for her mother that she must go through but is told she’s too young.

Are You There tells her story, as she deals with all the changes through the eyes of an eight-year-old, who has lost her pillar, but is told that children cannot be part of the mourning process.
